Contemporary Shaker Fitted Kitchen – Handmade Painted Furniture

This contemporary shaker fitted kitchen was designed, handmade and fitted by Tom Maxwell in Thorner, Leeds. Made with birch ply carcasses and finished with a clear water based lacquer. Doors and frames made from tulip wood with a F&B spray paint finish and the island unit top was made from White American Oak which was finished in Tung Oil. The kitchen was designed to fit the a main space at the back of the house with an extended corridor room to maximise a larger space. The doors cleverly hide every integrated appliance from dishwater to fridge and they all match every other door to give the whole kitchen a clean and attractive finish.

Kitchen Cupboards

The design of these kitchen cabinets are part of a fully designed kitchen. Due to the requirements of the client and the free standing nature of the units this kitchen is being made in stages and installed as separate pieces. These units comprise of a tall larder style cabinet with soft closing wire rack shelving at the bottom and specific item related shelving above, complete with double drawer and door unit and worktop. The worktops are made from Black American Walnut and finished in Danish Oil. The cabinetry is made from Tulipwood, with Birch ply for the panels and Sycamore for the drawers. The cabinets are hand painted with F&B water based eggshell.

Kitchen Island Unit

This island unit is part of a full kitchen design but was commissioned first as a standalone piece. Each side of the island has been specifically designed to accommodate  the overall layout of the kitchen, allowing free flowing  movement around and between each appliance and cabinet.

Black American Walnut has been used for the worktop, shelves and knobs. Tulipwood has been used for the framework, doors and drawer fronts. Birch ply has been used internally and for panels with Sycamore being used for the drawers.

The island has been finished in Danish Oil and F&B water based eggshell.
